Two-dimensional single- and multiple-quantum correlation spectroscopy in zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance.
2020
We present single- and multiple-quantum correlation $J$-spectroscopy detected in zero ($<\!\!1$~$\mu$G) magnetic field using a \Rb vapor-cell magnetometer. At zero field the spectrum of ethanol appears as a mixture of \carbon isotopomers, and correlation spectroscopy is useful in separating the two composite spectra. We also identify and observe the zero-field equivalent of a double-quantum transition in ${}^{13}$C$_2$-acetic acid, and show that such transitions are of use in spectral assignment. Two-dimensional spectroscopy further improves the high resolution attained in zero-field NMR since selection rules on the coherence-transfer pathways allow for the separation of otherwise overlappi…
NMR crystallography of 2-Acylamino-6-[1H]pyridones: solid state NMR, GIPAW computational, and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies
2011
Abstract 2-Acylamino-6-[1H]-pyridones [acyl = RCO, where R = methyl (1), ethyl (2), iso-propyl (3), tert-butyl (4), and 1-adamantyl (5)] have been synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy. From three congeners, 2, 3 and 5, also single crystal X-ray structures have been solved. For these derivatives GIPAW calculations acts as a “bridge” between solid-state NMR data and calculated chemical shifts based on X-ray determined geometry. In crystals all three compounds exist as pyridone tautomers possessing similar six-membered ring structure stabilized by intramolecular C O⋯HN hydrogen bond. Theoretical GIPAW calculated and experimental 13C and 15N CPMAS NMR shifts are in excellent agreem…
Preliminary magnetic resonance relaxometric analysis of Fricke gel dosimeters produced with polyvinyl alcohol and glutaraldehyde
2017
This work describes the preliminary analysis of Fricke gels dosimeters characterized by a new formulation making use of a matrix of polyvinyl alcohol cross-linked by adding glutaraldehyde and analyzed by means of nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry. In previous optical studies, these gels have shown promising dosimetric features in terms of photon sensitivity and low diffusion of ferric ions produced after irradiation. In this work, we used a portable nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometer to measure the relaxation times (which are important for dosimetric applications) of these gel materials. For this purpose, we performed a study for optimizing the acquisition parameters with a nuclear…
A new oleanane glycoside from the roots ofAstragalus caprinus
2006
A novel oleanane-type triterpene saponin (1) together with two known molecules, soyasapogenol B and astragaloside VIII were isolated from the roots of Astragalus caprinus. Their structural elucidation was performed mainly by 2D NMR techniques (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC) and mass spectrometry. Compound 1 was determined as 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl]-22-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-soyasapogenol B.
The effect of the cation p-surface area on the 3D organization and catalytic ability of imidazolium-based ionic liquids
2011
The dichotomic nature of ionic liquids (ILs, simple solvents or supramolecular fluids) induced us to carry out a structural investigation of some mono-and dicationic ionic liquids using 1D and 2D NMR, resonance light scattering, and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Ionic liquids with different cation π-surface areas were used, namely [bmim][NTf2], [Bzmim][NTf 2], [Bzbim][NTf2], [p-Xyl-(bim)2][NTf 2]2, and [m-Xyl-(bim)2][NTf2] 2 [bmim = 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium, Bzmim = 1-benzyl-3- methylimidazolium, Bzbim = 1-benzyl-3-butylimidazolium, NTf2 = bis(trifluoromethansulfonyl)imide]. In order to verify to what extent the structural investigation, coupled with the determination of solvent parameters, could…
Cytotoxic bufadienolides from the leaves of a medicinal plant Melianthus comosus collected in South Africa.
2020
Abstract From the leaves of South African medicinal plant Melianthus comosus, four previously undescribed bufadienolides, 16β-formyloxymelianthugenin (1), 2β-acetoxymelianthusigenin (2), 2β-hydroxy-3β,5β-di-O-acetylhellebrigenin (3), and 2β-acetoxy-5β-O-acetylhellebrigenin (4) were isolated together with two known bufadienolides. The structural elucidation of the compounds was based on 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and other spectroscopic methods. The relative configurations were determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography analysis and NOESY correlations. The isolated compounds displayed strong cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells, sensitive…
Synthesis and 1H-NMR configurational study of δ3-thiazolines from 2-aza-1,3-dienes
1992
Abstract A [4+1] heterocyclization process involving 2-aza-1,3-dienes and elemental sulphur leading to the synthesis of Δ3-thiazolines with excellent yields is described. A 1D TOCSY and 1D NOESY study of these systems was made in order to establish the configurations of the diastereoisomeric mixture.
2019
A unique series of six biaryl natural products displaying four different coupling types (5,1′, 7,1′, 7,8′, and 5,8′) were isolated from the roots of the West African liana Ancistrocladus abbreviatus (Ancistrocladaceae). Although at first sight structurally diverse, these secondary metabolites all have in common that they belong to the rare group of naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids with a fully dehydrogenated isoquinoline portion. Among the African Ancistrocladus species, A. abbreviatus is so far only the second one that was found to produce compounds with such a molecular entity. Here, we report on four new representatives, named ancistrobreveines A–D (12–14, and 6). They were identified alon…
New bioactive alkaloids from the marine sponge Stylissa sp.
2012
Abstract Chemical investigation of the Indonesian marine sponge Stylissa species, which was collected at 2008 from Derawan Islands, Berau, NE Kalimantan, Indonesia offered four new brominated alkaloids, including 12-N-methyl stevensine (1), 12-N-methyl-2-debromostevensine (2), 3-debromolatonduine B methyl ester (3), 3-debromolatonduine A (4) together with eight known alkaloids identified as Z-hymenialdisine, Z-debromohymenialdisine, Stevensine, 2-debromostevensine, 3-bromoaldizine, 3,4-dibromopyrrole-2-carbamide, latonduine A, and latonduine B methyl ester (5–12), respectively. The structures of all isolated compounds were unambiguously elucidated based on extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectrosco…
Antiproliferative activity against leukemia cells of sesquiterpene lactones from the Turkish endemic plant Centaurea drabifolia subsp. detonsa
2017
The apolar organic extract obtained from aerial parts of Centaurea drabifolia Sibth. & Sm. subsp. detonsa (Bornm.) Wagenitz, growing wild in Turkey, was investigated for the first time for its secondary metabolite composition. Seven sesquiterpene lactones belonging to the guaiane class (1-7), including the new compound 4, along with a fatty acid lactone derivative (8), were isolated. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis, including 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques, with the stereostructure of the new guaiane 4 determined with the help of MTPA derivatization. Cytotoxic activities of compounds 1-7 were evaluated against two cancer cell lines, namely acute…
